A routine visit to withdraw a monthly pension turned into a startling experience for an elderly man in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur after his bank account briefly displayed a balance of more than ₹700 crore, triggering an internal investigation into what officials suspect was a technical error.
The unusual balance appeared when Kameshwar Mishra, who receives a monthly social security pension of ₹1,100, visited the bank with his son. Bank officials later checked the account details, following which the amount disappeared and the balance returned to normal. Authorities have now begun examining how the erroneous figure appeared.

According to Mishra, he had gone to withdraw his pension when he requested the staff to check his remaining balance.

“I receive an old-age pension, a social security pension, of Rs 1,100 per month. I went with my son, who is deaf and mute, to withdraw this monthly amount. After withdrawing the money, I asked for my bank balance. The person checking the CBS system was stunned; they were astonished by the massive sum. For a moment, they were speechless and couldn’t quite process it,” he told ANI.
Mishra said the displayed balance in his account was ₹7,59,69,51,951.16.
He claimed the identical amount was also reflected in his son’s bank account, taking the combined balance to more than ₹1,500 crore.
“The sum was Rs 7,59,69,51,951.16. The same amount was also reflected in my son’s account too. I was naturally shocked by such a huge sum… the combined total was over Rs 15 billion rupees. I asked what had happened–how such a huge amount had arrived. When the screen was checked, it displayed that specific figure: Rs 7,59,69,51,951.16. That was just in one account; combined, the total exceeded Rs 15 billion. It caused me immense mental turmoil… I was left in a state of utter confusion,” Mishra said.
According to the information available, bank officials verified the accounts after the anomaly came to light. The unusually large balance then disappeared from both accounts.
Officials have initiated an inquiry to determine what caused the apparent technical glitch that briefly reflected the massive amount in the pensioner’s account.
